Details of Other Products |Clianthus puniceus - Pink Flamingo

There is nothing remotely ordinary about ‘Pink Flamingo’. The pendant flowers look like curved claws, lobster pincers, or the beak of a New Zealand kākā parrot—choose your favorite improbable comparison. They hang in generous clusters of deep rosy pink to magenta against handsome, ferny foliage composed of many small leaflets. In bloom, the plant has the strange elegance of a botanical illustration that wandered into real life. This evergreen New Zealand shrub develops long, arching to climbing stems and can reach roughly 6–8 feet in a favorable garden, often becoming broader with age or taller when trained against support. It makes a memorable specimen on a warm wall, beside a patio, or in a large container. The flowers are especially showy in spring and early summer, and hummingbirds investigate them readily.‘Pink Flamingo’ appreciates sun to light shade, regular water, and fertile but well-drained soil. Its biggest requirement is protection from hard frost and cold, wet conditions; a sheltered position is worth reserving for it. The stems can be gently tied to a trellis or pruned after flowering to maintain a shrubbier outline. Avoid disturbing the roots more than necessary. If rare plants with a slightly surreal streak are your idea of fun, explore the rest of our Clianthus collection.
